TOP 5 tips for parents on how to choose the right primary school

How to understand if a child is ready for school? Before you choose a school in England, you can consult with psychologists, but no one knows the temper of children as well as the parents. Pay attention to how the child interacts with society: tolerates noise and fuss, how quickly gets tired, what’s his/her attitude to competition, and boredom.

What You Should Consider When You Choose a School in England

By the age of five, the child should have cognitive motivation. This means that they can learn without paying attention to external factors. But it happens that for some first-graders, game motivation is still stronger than cognitive. This doesn’t mean that they don’t need to go to school. Just keep in mind that the child is still more comfortable in an atmosphere of greater freedom.

  1. Specialization

It would seem that everything is clear — what the child tends to, such a school should be preferred. But keep in mind that the language schools that are so popular now aren’t suitable for everyone. The child should have a fairly well-formed native speech, pronunciation without speech impediments, and a good vocabulary.

  1. Number of Students in a Class

For a “home” child who has never attended kindergarten, a small class is more suitable. Often parents put forward mutually exclusive requirements — they want the school to use an individual approach, but at the same time prefer large enough classes. A class of 6-7 people (in private schools, this is a common thing) scares them with its unusualness.

  1. Academic Load

According to medical standards, a student should spend no more than an hour on homework in elementary school. In prestigious, “strong” schools, first-graders often do homework until eleven o’clock in the evening. For a weakened child, it can become a disaster. A “strong” school is categorically not suitable for frequently ill children, for those who have chronic diseases.

  1. Location and How You will Get There

Of course, the younger the child, the more important it is for them to have a school close to home. But if it’s a choice between a bad school nearby and a good one but two blocks away, it’s better to choose a school in England that’s farther away. Evaluate whether it will be convenient for you and your child to use transport, subway, underground walkway, and so on.

  1. Tuition Fee

Public schools are considered free of charge. Private school tuition fee is much more expensive. However, high fees at private schools don’t always guarantee the quality of education. It happens that inexpensive private schools give a much better result (including in comparison with public ones).
